Varieties of Pomegranates which we deal with are as under
Arakta Pomegranat
The fruits are smaller than Ganesh variety having dark red coloured arils with soft seeds.
- Hence, the ‘Phule Arakta’ variety is released for the cultivation in pomegranate growing areas of Maharashtra.
- Phule Arakta Pomegranate has heavy demand for export and distant markets, particularly in United Kingdom and Gulf countries etc.
- It is attractive and smooth peel increasing its cosmetic value and market appearance of the fruits.
- It is dark red coloured with attractive arils & fruits are suitable for both table and processing purposes.
Ganesh Pomegranate
This variety is developed by selection method (selction from Alandi). It is a prolific bearer, fruit are medium sized with yellow, smooth and red tinge (rind yellowish red). Seeds are soft with pinkish aril. It is a prolific bearer, fruit very large.
Bhagwa Pomegranate
Bhagwa variety is also known as Shendria or Sinduri, Astagandha and Kesar. This is a selection from F2 population of the cross Ganesh x Gulesha Red. Fruits are attractive glossy red rind. Arils are blood red in colour. It is soft seeded variety.
- Bigger fruit size, sweet, bold and attractive arils, glossy, very attractive saffron coloured thick skin makes it suitable for distant markets. This variety was found less susceptible to fruit spots and thrips as compared to other varieties of pomegranate.
- Increasing demand for export markets particularly in United Kingdom, Holland, other European and gulf countries etc.
- Fruits are very attractive, ‘Saffron’ coloured, smooth and glossy peel which is increasing its cosmetic value and market appearance of the fruits.
- Fruits are with attractive sseds having cherry red coloured and bold arils, which are suitable for both table and processing purposes.
